N.H. Film Looks for Cast in Jeremy Robinson's Bestselling Novel

ROCHESTER — Rochester-based, bestselling author Jeremy Robinson is now accepting auditions for a short film, The Owl, to be directed by Robinson and Ken Dodge. The movie will be shot this fall, Oct. 17 through 19, and will be premiered locally, shown at film festivals around the world and used as a launch pad for a feature length film. The Owl tells the story of two men, George and Chris, as they track down Amanda, a little girl gone missing — or taken — in the dark woods of New Hampshire...where something inhuman lurks. Classic frights mixed with a character driven narrative.

“We’re looking to cast actors capable of a wide emotional range,” Robinson said when asked about potential actors, which include a middle aged man and woman, a 20-something man and a girl, age 10–14. “The characters will experience everything from light-hearted humor to abject terror, and it all needs to feel natural.”

Casting Call for 'Doctor Who'

Comfortably one of the funniest autobiographies we've ever had the pleasure is Tom Baker's Who On Earth Is Tom Baker?, which we talked about in the Den Of Geek Book Club (which is a thing), right here.

Now, however, news has reached us, via The Digital Fix, that there's a one-off drama heading to our screens that tells the story of Tom Baker's early life. A casting call for a project called The Letter has appeared online, with the focus on "how a chance letter to the BBC when working as a builder's labourer lead to him becoming the most iconic Doctor Who".

'Guardians of the Galaxy' Auditions for Groot

In ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ the gentle arboreal thug Groot, voiced by Vin Diesel, only has one line: “I Am Groot”.

However, every time he says it, it carries a different meaning. Think of him as a (only very slightly) more eloquent Chewbacca.

When we spoke to the cast, we wanted to know if any of the other actors could step in and cover for Vin for the sequel.

We auditioned Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista and director James Gunn getting them to read the line.

But, as our exclusive video above proves, Vin Diesel proved to be very canny casting.

Chris Pratt’s take is absolutely priceless.

'Ted 2' Calls for Extras

Just yesterday, we announced that Seth MacFarlane, Mark Wahlberg and Amanda Seyfried would be heading to Massachusetts this summer to film 'Ted 2,' rekindling the 2012 relationship between Mark Wahlberg's character and a stuffed teddy bear, Ted, who, after coming to life, has a penchant for dirty jokes and strippers.

And as of today, you can be a part of the movie (albeit a small part): Boston Casting is hosting an open casting call this month in search of extras for the film. The poster asks for "all types, 18 years old and up" to come audition to be an extra in 'Ted 2' from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 26. Hundreds Flock to Tom Hanks' and Meg Ryan's 'Ithaca' Audition

Hundreds of boys and their parents answered the call Sunday afternoon — the casting call, that is — vying for a spot in the Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan movie “Ithaca,” which will be filmed in the Richmond area this summer.

The open casting call for the young hopefuls ages 4 to 14 was held at Art Works in South Richmond from 1 to 4 p.m., though staff expected it to run well into the evening.

mbrellas and lawn chairs (and a strategically placed Blue Bunny ice-cream truck) lined the building, wrapping around and then some farther south on Hull Street as the afternoon sun and humidity built up. Many waited for at least two hours before starting their auditions.

Many of the boys only knew Hanks as the voice of Woody in Pixar’s “Toy Story,” while many of their parents recalled his romantic comedy days with Ryan in “Sleepless in Seattle,” “You’ve Got Mail” and “Joe Versus the Volcano.”

Something to Know Before Casting Your Film

L.A.-based filmmaker Noam Kroll has given Indiewire permission to publish this article from his website NoamKroll.com. Kroll is writing from his personal experience casting without using a casting director. Indiewire acknowledges the crucial role of casting directors in the filmmaking process. Kroll's tips provide insight into the process for someone without professional casting experience. Check out Kroll's original blog post here, and his production company post-production house Creative Rebellion here.

Countless directors have said that casting is unequivocally the most important element in the filmmaking process. Many directors subscribe to the famous notion that 90% of directing is casting, as they recognize that a film that is cast well and according to the director’s vision will be far more realistic and authentic than one cast in any other way. Surprisingly though, many new directors don't place an emphasis on the casting process and simply see it as another pre-production task that just needs to get done. So for you budding directors out there, be sure to read this post all the way to the end as I'm going to walk through importance of choosing the right talent, and explain how your actors can and will completely change the dynamic of your final picture.

Video Auditions for Game of Thrones Season 5

There are just two episodes of Game of Thrones season four remaining, so in only a few weeks we will begin preparing for the production of season 5 — which is set to start filming later this summer.
With filming of the next season just around the corner, casting is taking place and a tipster has sent us an audition video for season five. While we don’t know the authenticity of the video, the writing seems legitimate and it was interesting enough to pass along.

The audition if for the character of Obara Sand, the bastard daughter of Oberyn Martell.

The Brilliant Casting in 'Edge of Tomorrow'

There are a few movies that Edge of Tomorrow obviously calls to mind. Groundhog Day is the big one, while the movie’s initial battle scene is reminiscent of Saving Private Ryan. The latter would be the more direct visual reference, almost remake rather than homage, but it’s really more than that. Within the plot, the battle is a literal redo of the Normandy landing, so it’s a double-layer repeat for a movie that’s already all about doing things over again. It definitely seems to be intentional, too, that Edge of Tomorrow opens in the U.S. on the 70th anniversary of D-Day.

Another movie relevant to the appreciation of Edge of Tomorrow is Aliens. Both have Bill Paxton and both have an extraterrestrial threat. The casting of the actor here has to be connected to his appearance in the Alien sequel, and he has even stated presumption of as much in interviews. Specifically, though, he tends to mention just the alien link and that he was desired so that he could say, “Game over, Man!” Yet his character never does say that. He doesn’t need to, because there’s enough recall here to have the audience thinking of the line, so long as they’re familiar with the earlier movie and are consciously aware that they’re watching something mimicking video game play.

Deep Insights on Indie Filmmaking and Casting

(This is Part Ten of an ongoing series to help educate aspiring filmmakers on the process of making their first film. Previous articles in this series can be found at BleedingCool.com and MovieIndustry.com)

At the risk of dwelling on this topic a bit too long, I’m devoting one more article to the casting process. In the two previous outings we touched on the importance of getting appropriate “name” talent in proportion to your budget and the decision of whether or not to shoot non-union or union and the complexities of the latter. As a final note on this subject, I’d like to offer up some suggestions for the nuts and bolts of the auditioning process.

Chris Pratt Addresses 'Jurassic World' Casting Rumors

The last few months have been rife with casting rumors surrounding the Jurassic Park sequel, Jurassic World. One of the main names involved in these rumors was that of Parks and Recreation star, Chris Pratt. Though filmmaker Ron Howard (whose daughter, Bryce Dallas Howard is set to star in the film) reportedly leaked the news of Pratt's casting, the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy actor this week confirmed the news and spoke openly about his excitement for the project.

During a recent press event for his new movie, The Lego Movie (in which he voices the main character of the animated adventure film), Pratt revealed that, to him, Jurassic Park was the biggest movie of his life. Audition of the Best Villain in Thor

There’s really no arguing that Loki is the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s best villain. As played by Tom Hiddleston, he’s so slyly charismatic that he often threatens to steal the show from right out under the real hero, Chris Hemsworth‘s Thor. But when casting for the first Thor was going on, Hiddleston wasn’t initially set on playing the bad guy. In fact, he originally tried out for the part of Thor.

The bonus features released with the Thor: The Dark World Blu-ray include Hiddleston’s original audition tape for the role, in which he goes bare-chested, rocks long blond locks, and swings around the iconic hammer. See Hiddleston in action as Thor after the jump.

Bright Eyes Go for Coen Brothers Audition

Conor Oberst has revealed that he auditioned for the lead role in Inside Llewyn Davis. Although the Coen Brothers eventually cast actor Oscar Isaac as the film's titular folk singer, Oberst was apparently one of several professional musicians the directors considered for the part.

"I know I told you this when we met, but I tried out for your role in Inside Llewyn Davis," Oberst told Isaac as part of an article for Interview magazine. "Thank god for everyone that I didn't get it."

According to an earlier article with the Wall Street Journal, Joel and Ethan Coen initially hoped to cast "a musician who could act" as the singer Llewyn Davis. "They auditioned a lot of musicians and actors for this part," Oberst confirmed, "to the point where I heard the Coen Brothers and [music supervisor] T Bone Burnett say that they had more or less given up on the idea of finding someone. And then you appeared."

Casting Remains to be Seen in Quentin Tarantino Film

For his first movie since 2012's Django Unchained, the director is going back to the Western genre with a script called The Hateful Eight, which he hopes to direct this summer, according to sources. (Another source said there is no timetable at this stage.)

The title suggests Tarantino could be upping the ante, playing off the title of John Sturges1960 film The Magnificent Seven, which in turn was a remake of Akira Kurosawa's 1954 Seven Samurai.

No one has been cast yet, but Tarantino has reached out to veteran casting director Victoria Thomas, who worked on Django, to work with him on casting the movie, say several insiders. A part has been written for Christoph Waltz, who starred in Tarantino's Django and Inglourious Basterds.
