Hundreds Flock to Tom Hanks' and Meg Ryan's 'Ithaca' Audition

Hundreds of boys and their parents answered the call Sunday afternoon — the casting call, that is — vying for a spot in the Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan movie “Ithaca,” which will be filmed in the Richmond area this summer.

The open casting call for the young hopefuls ages 4 to 14 was held at Art Works in South Richmond from 1 to 4 p.m., though staff expected it to run well into the evening.

mbrellas and lawn chairs (and a strategically placed Blue Bunny ice-cream truck) lined the building, wrapping around and then some farther south on Hull Street as the afternoon sun and humidity built up. Many waited for at least two hours before starting their auditions.

Many of the boys only knew Hanks as the voice of Woody in Pixar’s “Toy Story,” while many of their parents recalled his romantic comedy days with Ryan in “Sleepless in Seattle,” “You’ve Got Mail” and “Joe Versus the Volcano.”
