LOS ANGELES – Last week, famed director Michael Bay and Paramount Pictures announced that popular Chinese entertainer Han Geng had been cast in the highly-anticipated fourth installment of the “Transformers” franchise, joining fellow Chinese star Li Bingbing as well as Hollywood names Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor in the hit film series.
But is the casting of several Chinese actors in dominant roles further indication that the Chinese box office is becoming an increasingly important moneymaking tool for Hollywood studios?
