The search for the actress to fill the glass slipper is over: Downton Abbey’s Lady Rose, a.k.a. Lily James, will play the iconic princess in Disney’s live-action version of Cinderella. The remake, directed by Sir Kenneth Branagh, will also star Cate Blanchett as the evil stepmother. A release date has not yet been set.

Cinderella is having a bit of a pop culture moment lately. In addition to the James news, the Broadway version of the Rodgers & Hammerstein tale was nominated for 9 Tony Awards this morning.

Outside of the stage, Cinderella last hit theaters in 2004 in the modern-day high school tale A Cinderella Story, starring Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray. (The movie spawned two direct-to-DVD sequels starring both Selena Gomez and Lucy Hale as the heroine.)
