Denver Audition Ask For 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire'

   
DENVER - Don’t miss your chance to laugh all the way to the bank this season on “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” with new host Cedric “The Entertainer.”  Producers from the hit game show will hold local contestant auditions on Friday, July 12 at The Seawell Grand Ballroom (Downtown at Speer and Arapahoe) in the Denver Performing Arts Complex to find contestants for the much anticipated new season.

An all new season of “Millionaire” with host Cedric “The Entertainer” will premiere on Denver’s 7 (KMGH/ABC) on Monday, September 2, where “Millionaire” can be seen weekdays at 2 p.m.

Few Advices on Lo-Fi Horror Films Auditions

Following in the tradition of “The Blair Witch Project,” writer-director Jimmy Loweree’s new lo-fi, found-footage indie “Absence” is a horror film with a fresh twist: The reason four people are in an isolated cabin in the woods is because the seven-months-pregnant Liz claims to be the victim of cesarian theft. Of course, things aren’t that easily explainable, and it’s not long before flashing lights and strange noises are driving Liz, her husband, and her brother to question what’s happening around them.

We spoke to Loweree about casting an indie horror film, and he gave some advice about what similar projects may be looking for in an audition.

Cast a wide net when casting.

Though “Absence” only has four main characters, Loweree still had what he calls “a fairly large casting call.” A friend with experience ran the casting calls, and the team ended up auditioning almost 300 people over three and a half days. “It was very educational for sure,” Loweree says. “I was trying to do my best to make them comfortable.”

Casting Addition on 'Wish I Was Here'

EXCLUSIVE: Joey King has been tapped for the role of Grace Bloom in Wish I Was Here, the indie drama Kickstarted by Zach Braff. King will play Grace Bloom, the 12-year-old daughter of Braff’s character who takes her Jewish education very seriously and is dubious about having him as her home teacher. King is in theaters now opposite Channing Tatum in White House Down and appears later this month with Vera Farmiga in Warner Bros’ The Conjuring. She is repped by Coast To Coast Talent Group and Industry Entertainment.

Disney is adding to the cast of Alexander And The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Dylan Minnette (Lost, Let Me In, Prisoners) has joined the Judith Viorst book adaptation as the older brother to Alexander (Ed Oxenbould), the young hero who goes through the mishaps of a terrible day for his family after he wishes they all would experience the same troubles he does.

Casting Questions for the 'Justice League'

With news this week that Christian Bale officially won’t be in any future Justice League movie, whether based on the script David Goyer’s currently at work on or not, there’s a bit of a vacuum to the roster. It’s possible, we suppose, that Ryan Reynolds could return as Hal Jordan, but after the disaster that was the Green Lantern movie, DC and Warner Bros. seems pretty intent on leaving that story and continuity behind.

And it begs the question: Outside of Henry Cavill’s Superman, who rounds out the Justice League ensemble? We’re certainly not the first to ask the question, but the 4th of July weekend seems a particularly apt time to talk about casting possibilities for the Justice League of America. Our staff’s come up with a few options, some rote, some a little out there. Perhaps keying off the comedy of errors that has been the various attempts to get a Justice League film up and going (in contrast to Marvel’s wildly successful Phase 1), one of our staff even cast the whole thing as a comedy. (For the record, Desetoiles’s lineup went like this: Adam Sandler or Will Ferrell as Batman, Kristen Wiig as Wonder Woman, Kevin Hart as Flash, Kevin James as Green Lantern, Melissa McCarthy as the Martian Manhunter, Rachel Dratch as Aquaman, Mike Tyson as Hawkman, Charlie Sheen as Green Arrow, and Ashton Kutcher as Cyborg. That would be some movie indeed.)

Long Casting and Production Process for Marvel Films

Marvel Studios has a 100% confirmed schedule set in place through 2015. This May Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will kick start with Iron Man 3; Thor: The Dark World will arrive in November; Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be in theaters April of next year; Guardians of the Galaxy will be blasting off in August 2014; The Avengers 2 will reassemble the heroes in May the following year; and Ant-Man will be introduced that November.

But if the Marvel plan is a smoothly paved highway, that makes the DC Cinematic Universe more of the gravely dirt path. In June of last year it looked as though we were on the road towards a legitimate live-action Justice League film, but due to creative issues behind the scenes in the time since the ride has been a bit bumpy. Will Christopher Nolan continue working with in the superhero world post-Man of Steel? What’s the latest on the other heroes in the line-up? There are a lot of questions floating in the ether, and we’re following them to see where they lead.

Casting Filled for 'The Hundred Foot Journey'

The Oscar-winning actress will be starring in The Hundred Foot Journey, DreamWorks Studios officially announced today. Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr first reported in early June that Helen Mirren was circling the project to play eccentric and famous chef Madame Mallory. Mirren will be joined in the adaptation of Richard Morais’ bestseller by Manish Dayal from 90210 and ABC Family’s Switched At Birth in the role of Hassan Haji.  

Lasse Hallstrom will direct the culinary competition drama about an Indian restaurant and a three-Michelin-star joint literally across the street from each other in Southern France. Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey and Juliet Blake are producing.

Casting Call for Female Filmmakers

 

Summer is the perfect time for a night out at the cinema, but maybe you've noticed something missing at the movies: women. 

Women make up a minority of movie creators: 7 percent of directors, 13 percent of writers and 20 percent of producers; that's nearly five men for every woman working behind the scenes. 

Out of last year's biggest movies, 28 percent of speaking characters were female. That's down from a third just five years ago, according to the Annenberg School at the University of Southern California.
