Hundreds Tried to Catch Broadway's 'Wicked' Spell

Hundreds of people queued through Covent Garden for the chance to dance in the West End show Wicked.
More than 600 joined the lines for the open auditions yesterday, with the first arriving at Pineapple studios at 7am. One man flew  in from Australia and a woman slept out overnight.

Queues began again early today for about 20 positions with the London company and the separate touring production. The show’s executive producer Michael McCabe said he was “stunned” by how many had turned up.

Candidates must appear to be aged 18 to late twenties and be within certain heights. “It’s an exceptional turnout,” said Mr McCabe. “There’s massive interest in dance right now. It has exploded all over TV and suddenly dance is the buzzy thing.”
